Universitatea POLITEHNICA din Bucuresti, a centenary institution, is the oldest technical University in Romania, ranked first (2013) on both teaching and research capabilities (electrical engineering) in the country. UPB offers to its approximately 25000 students undergraduate and graduate programs of study, organized in 13 faculties, 2 colleges, 3 departments and 60 departments; it is offering Master of Science programs in more than 170 specializations, and Ph.D. degrees in 14 fields of Engineering Sciences. UPB has participated in many European programs including FP 5, FP 6 and FP 7 ICT and energy projects.

The MicroDerLab (www.microderlab.pub.ro) is a research group at the University Politehnica of Bucharest, reuniting teams from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Power Engineering. It promotes a common research agenda on electrical engineering topics envisaging the intelligent networks of the future. Since 2013 is member of the DERLab – European Distributed Energy Resources Laboratories association.
